Did you know that CureTape® kinesiology taping can be used successfully for period pain relief. It can be used by women who suffer from various complaints during or just before menstruation.

“Primary dysmenorrhea” is the medical term for abdominal and/or back complaints that can be associated with, for example, nausea, vomiting, depression, headache, fatigue, and concentration problems. Primary dysmenorrhea is common. Research shows that at least 60% of women have complaints during menstruation. The percentage is higher for women under the age of 20.

Causes for period pain

The exact cause of primary dysmenorrhea is unknown, but there are strong indications that overproduction of the hormone prostaglandin in the endometrium is a cause of the complaints.

The prostaglandin can cause sustained (spastic) contractions of the smooth muscle of the uterus. This creates a greater stretch on the ligaments and fascia of the uterus and reduces blood flow in this area. This triggers the pain receptors.

The hormone prostaglandin also causes other complaints such as:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue

The treatment of period pain with CureTape®

Period pain is often treated with painkillers. However, painkillers can also have side effects such as insomnia, stomach complaints, and headaches.

A treatment with CureTape® kinesiology tape is a non-drug treatment and is effective and easy to apply. Within half an hour after applying the tape, the period pain might be nearly gone. It is best to wear the tape for one to three days.

Tape on the stomach side: two smaller I-strips.

Stretch the skin by maximum inhalation position. The first strip is applied between the navel and the upper edge of the pubic area. The second tape should be applied horizontally from the center over the first tape.

Tape on the backside: one longer I-strip.

Stretch the skin by flexion, apply the tape from the center over the left and right dimples on the back, also called dimples of Venus.

Why does CureTape help for period pain relief?

The elastic property of CureTape® kinesiology tape provides a lifting effect on the skin, giving the pain receptors more space. There is also a segmental relationship from the spinal cord to the uterine area. The “stimulus” that the tape provides causes a decrease in “tissue tension” in this zone so that the period pain reduces or even disappears.
